Brihana Dominguez

Being grateful comes to me no matter what situation I am in. I am appreciative of the benefits I am given. When I am given a chance to fight for, I take it. My past leads to my future because it helped me realize what I want to do with my career. And who I am today will improve who I am tomorrow.
My name is Brihana Dominguez and this is my 3rd year participating as an ambassador in USC’s Trojan Dance Marathon! I have an amazing time each year and always look forward to the next! I am a student at Citrus College planning to transfer to USC to major in nursing and play water polo. I play college water polo and I am an assistant coach for the girl’s J.V and frosh/soph water polo team at Bonita High School.

My first visit to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was frightening.  I wasn’t exactly sure of what was going on. I was six years old when I broke my leg. I did a cartwheel at my elementary school and didn’t land correctly. My leg began to swell and my mom called 911. I was rushed to a local community hospital. Doctors found a benign tumor in my left femur bone that caused me to break my leg so easily. From there I was transferred to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I was nervous being at the hospital especially not knowing why I was going through all of this. Being unaware of what was happening terrified me even more. When going into surgery, all I could think of was what was going to happen to me. Would I come out okay? Would I be taken care of during surgery? When my parents briefly explained what the anesthesia was and why it was used, I was frightened, but my anesthesiologist came and comforted me before surgery. I was feeling more at ease with the surgery. I asked questions concerning if I would wake up too soon, or wake up at all. I was released from the hospital two weeks after my surgery. I was in a cast for four months and then I continued with physical therapy.

My vision is to become a nurse anesthetist. My aspiration is to make a difference in people’s lives and to further my dexterity and knowledge. The void being filled is to help those who cannot help themselves. Having the responsibility of others’ lives will give me the strength to put more efforts into my skill. Having trust is also a big part of taking full responsibility for others. I hope that the results of my accomplishments will lead me to reach complex levels and to attain my goals at progressive standards. The reward is knowing that I did something right. Not many people have the opportunity to become what I want to be, a nurse anesthetist. I see a superior value in helping than receiving and I am to be given the trust and veneration of who I am amongst my peers.

Personal quality, talent, accomplishments, and contributions to the community are the life experiences that have helped me become who I am today and are also a positive influence in my future educational endeavors. Today, I am helpful towards others and try to make the best of the vilest situations. I have participated in the past Children’s Hospital Proms as well as donate each year to CHLA. I help the best I can and try to put as much time and efforts as I can into supporting and staying committed to Children’s Hospital. I am principle based, meaning I stick to what I contribute to. I admire Children’s Hospital and look forward to prolong with donating and helping CHLA.

I give 110% for whatever may benefit me later in the future. I will always figure out a way to win for my advantage. I will fight for my best ability and for what may benefit all. I am determined towards my actions. Once I make the right decision I usually stick with it. Being grateful comes to me no matter what situation I am in. I am appreciative of the benefits I am given. When I am given a chance to fight for, I take it. My past leads to my future because it helped me realize what I want to do with my career. And who I am today will improve who I am tomorrow.
